Read Your Email Carefully

Keep asking Would he/she send me that? It is important to remember that you can’t trust the “from” address on e-mail as it can be spoofed (masking the real sender). If you didn’t expect a message, link, or attachment from someone, ask yourself why you should trust that it really came from the apparent sender.   Also look at the type of attachment, is it a .exe or .zip file, then use extreme caution.  For those type of files are programs that will run on your computer or contain programs within the file.  When in doubt, it’s a good idea to call and verify that they sent you the message with the link or attachment.

2. Certificates: If you don’t understand a website certificate message, say no and consult IT support. It is easier to go back and say yes if you need to than be sorry and have to rebuild your credit.

3. Antivirus: Running antivirus does not slow your computer down nearly as much as a virus does.

4. Back-up: Backing up your data may seem like a waste of time — er, until you spill coffee all over your laptop.

5. Passwords: Writing down your password around your desk is about as secure as leaving a $20 bill lying on the dashboard of your car. How well do you trust anyone these days?

Printers, for example, come packaged with drivers to install that tell your operating system exactly how to print information on a piece of paper. Sound card drivers tell your computer how to create audio signals that the card can output to your speakers.
